installing apache first time - helpful tip

Here is a helpful hint if you are installing apache for the first time.

make sure under software -> easy apache -> exhaustive options, that you check the boxs for PDO, mb_string, and also zip.

Reasons:
Your scripts that run on pdo such as oxwall will need the pdo library to run.
mbstring is needed by some scripts such as whmcs for some international features.
zip library is needed in order to update scripts via ftp remotely such as oxwall for new versions as well as plugins and other software is the same im sure.

These are not set by default you must select them in the exhaustive options list.

This will save you much time in trying to figure out why your scripts dont work lol..

what is wrong with this regex filter?

I created an account level filter following my hosting provider's suggestion

SUbject = Matchregex = Medicare|walmart|Amazon-GiftCard|car dealerships

That didn't work so I tried putting an | at the end of the line and then it worked except it blocked everything regardless of what was in the subject. Is it possible to block mail using the list of strings as shown above?

cpanel text display error

Hi all,

I am new to the forum, I have very recently set up a reseller account for hosting.

I have set up WHMCS to create the accounts once I have given the go ahead after the client has paid etc, all seems to be working well except on cpanel it displays the text overlapping icon names and adds small extra names to areas such as in the file manager area.

I have attached two images here to show what I mean.

Do you know how to fix this? It all seems to be working well, so is just maybe a visual error? It looks the same in Chrome, Firefox and IE.

Unusual disk partition config - is it OK?

This is a new dedicated server build. Server is centOS 6.5 x86_64 standard / WHM 11.44.1 (build 11)

I am using a new data center. There were some initial problems with the server build (DNS was not configured properly in WHM, and it took them a while to get it sorted out), and so I would like to verify that this disk partitioning scheme is OK before I start moving accounts to this server.

In WHM Home » Server Status » Server Information, near the bottom is an area "Disk Usage".
Normally I would see something like this this (taken from a dedicated server I have elsewhere):

On this new server, I see this:

If I run df -h from the command line I see what is immediately above

If I run df -hT for what I expect to be a partition (ex: df -hT /home), I always get the same result:

root@ns7 [~]# df -hT /home

root@ns7 [~]# df -hT /usr

I have asked my data center about this, and they have said:

This created the following (useable) partitions: 500mb boot swap of recommended size (generally 8 to 16gb) the remaining space to the root folder.
Nothing there about the partitions /home, /var, /user...

BTW, I did request raid1, not the partitioning script. I also have raid1 on my servers at another data center.

I did notice on the cpanel docs at http://docs.cpanel.net/twiki/bin/vie...d_Partitioning , just above the recommended partition size table, this: Note: All of the following partitions are optional except / and swap.

And I do see the folders for /home, /var, /user, etc. on the server

I have put a few test accounts on the server, and all seems OK, but I would like to know if something is going to blow up later before I start moving my hosted accounts.

Httpd.Conf Modification For Shared Multi Domain SSL Cert

I am doing research on shared SSL certificates. Basically I have the following scenario:

Multi-Domain (not wildcard) cert for:
- domain.com (cpanel account1)
- sub1.domain.com (account2)
- sub2.domain.com (account3)

Shared IP scenario:
Now when I install the cert it works great for domain.com but sub1.domain.com will redirect https requests to domain.com and does not serve the content from sub1.domain.com (a new account)

So, I believe that a httpd.conf modification should be doable to serve the correct site

Dedicated IP for each account required?
Is that correct or do I in fact need a dedicated IP for each account?

Sites late online after server reboot

On my server, almost all my sites are extremely late online after server reboot, or up to half an hour or so. :)

I didn't have this problem before until I noticed this last winter. I reboot the server when it has been online for 2-3 months.

This is Apache 2.4 web server on a VPS.

Why no template variable in DNS template doc for reverse IP

I was looking here for a variable i could use for my PTR entry for the template, PRT require the ip to be in reverse and i was wondering why no variable for that?

Mysql issues after Upgrade to 5.6 to allow CPanel

I got a message I needed Mysql 5.5 or higher to allow CPANEL upgrade to come through, but after doing so MYSQL will not start at all.

I've seen people reference things you could modify possibly in /etc/my.cnf but this is all I have in mine

and the /root/.my.cnf only has a [client] with the user and pass.


Yes I've tried the symlink
I have also tried adjusting the mysql password, but it fails because mysql is not started or able to be started due to this error.

I also don't even see that file it's looking for in the /tmp dir

When attempting to login to WHM (as root) I get the following error:

Internal Server Error

500

No response from subprocess (whostmgr (cpanel)): subprocess was killed with signal 7

cpsrvd/11.42.1.25 Server at ***

Any ideas on how to fix this? Websites on the server are still online. I've tried restarting cpanel (service cpanel restart) and a reboot of the server with no luck.

Restore is adding "extra" characters?

Updated WHM from 11.42 ---> 11.44

When trying to do a restore on accounts, its adding in "characters" that shouldnt be there, and then its stating the following:

It looks like you are trying to restore a backup for the user âusernameâ
cPanel restorepkg
Restricted: ânoâ
no âusernameâ
The system did not find an account archive for the user âusernameâ
root@server [/home]#
Its adding this: â

before the update, it was working fine and didnt add "â" So it had "username" in which now it has "âusernameâ", and so it cant find the archive.

Is there a way around this?

Something is sending spam emails from random generated emails @mydomain

Hi guys,

I'm quite new to WHM, i've upgraded a few months ago from shared hosting to unmanaged vps, and today i've got an email from my webhosting provider stating "We have received a spam report regarding your server with us and we need you to investigate it and fix the problem in question."

unfortunatley it's an "unmanaged" vps, so i wont get significant help from the webhosting company, and i thought i try here too, maybe you could give me some guidance on how to fix this.

Moving home.html to domain name

So I bought a domain name from GoDaddy and then purchased their Website Builder v7. Then I realized that the website builder wouldn't do the things I needed. So I cancelled that and purchased the regular hosting and such. For now, I just want my domain name--let's just call it domain.com--to take the content of domain.com/home.html.

Right now, when I go to "domain.com", it shows the content from the last time I published on the WebsiteBuilder 7.

So any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Can't create packages with unlimited resources, overselling is enabled

Hello,
currently my server can't create packages with unlimited resources, I mean, I have assigned to the reseller the ability to overselling but he can't create an account using the package with unlimited resources (I have attached some screenshots), before it was possible to create them with unlimited resources.
is it any update of cPanel that will not allow the creation of accounts with unlimited resources?

How to assign multiple shared IP address on single user account?

Hi,

My server's shared IP is often being attacked.For that I bought a server with High DDoS Protection and setup a reverse proxy on that server.

I will asked my users use CNAME record so that I could control the IP their domain point to.In normal time,my users will directly access to server.And when my shared IP under attack,my DNS monitor will set the record point to the server with DDoS protection automatically.

But there is a big problem.Reverse proxy need a source IP address.In my case,it should set to my server shared IP address.But when the attack begin,the public shared IP will be null routed by the D.C.

So I want to set a PRIVATE HIDDEN shared IP address on ALL my users account.That HIDDEN IP is only for reverse proxy and user should not know.
Is that any possibility to do that?I know it could be easily done with Apache along.But with cPanel,I did not see any setting with it.

Problems installing MySQL Utilities

My server:
CENTOS 5.10 i686 standard
WHM 11.42.1 (build 25)

I have downloaded MySQL Utilities and attempted to install.
The following is what I have done but receiving error:

wget http://dev.mysql.com/get/Downloads/M...s-1.4.4.tar.gz
tar xvzf mysql-utilities*
cd mysql-utilities-1.4.4
chmod +x setup.py
./setup.py build

But receiving the following error:

SyntaxError: invalid syntax


Can anyone shed some light on what the issue may be?
If Python needs to be upgraded, what is the safe way of doing so?

reverse dns subnet

I have this subnet 82.78.235.72/27. How to reverse dns in whm? in whm can't add 72/27.235.78.82 because return ip invalid. It is posible to reverse this subnet in whm or manual edit named.conf? (my provider delegate this subnet to me)

theme contrast between select and input background color and text color

Hi,

I would like to report an irritating bug with WHM and cPanel.

in several places a light colored css background is set on input elements such as <select> <input type=text etc however no css color is defined. Beings I'm using a dark theme in my operating system by default these elements have a black background with white text, so when you use css to change the background color without changing the font color I end up with white on white, so what I type (or select in the case of select boxes) is not visible.

In the attached screenshots you can see some examples, the WHM one I have typed list in the search and used SHIFT+LEFTARROW to highlight the last 2 letters so you can see that it is typed in,

The solution is simple, anytime you define a background color in css also define color, and vise-versa

Bypass of account suspension via mod_userdir.

Security Rating

cPanel has assigned a Security Level of Moderate to this vulnerability.

Description

The fix for case 101677 in TSR-2014-0005 introduced a regression in account suspensions that allowed the web content of a suspended account to be viewed normally via Apache userdir style URLs. This has been corrected so that both NameVirtualHost and userdir access to the suspended account's web content is blocked.

Credits

This issue was discovered by the cPanel Security Team.

Solution

This issue is resolved in the following builds:

11.40.1.20

Shelling from admin to user accounts?

Hi,
For reasons I don't entirely understand, our hired gun set us up with WHM, a cpanel reseller account, and then set up our site on a user account thereunder. That's not a problem except for this:

I need to run a line command in that user account, but can't figure out how to get there from the reseller account via command line.

I also can't shell directly into it. All passwords fail. (all accounts are set to 'normal shell' in WHM).

ssh keys don't work in any account (via putty).

The java shell in cpanel only works for the reseller account. In the other account, it loads but the password box fails to appear, and it's frozen otherwise.

reseller and user have the same cpanel password.

Any suggestions for line commands or getting user shell working would be appreciated.
